Creation Through the Spheres

Unrevised Lecture by Willi Sucher, Albrighton Hall, 4 January 1953

Today I should like to talk to you about creation in conjunction with the planetary spheres. We have first had the heaven of Saturn. In that Saturn we recognize the periphery of the solar system and the threshold between the solar system and the world of the fixed stars. The further modern science enters the universe, the more the stars recede.

So, in Saturn we have the Father ground of existence. The Sun we recognize as a Being, an Agent that created space and time, sucking and drawing in cosmic substance. With Saturn, which remembers the first beginnings, we have the archetype of the human being. If we deviate from this archetype, destiny steps in.

The Sun, through its suctional activity, must disintegrate the essence of the cosmic forces. This creates light, or consciousness. We badly need this warmth, for it invigorates and helps us to accomplish deeds. We have the two poles of the Sun and Saturn in the periphery. If the Sun would work alone, the whole development would progress too fast — the activities would be greatly accelerated. Thus we have the two polarities. The mediator is the Moon: Saturday, Sunday, Monday.

The Moon collects cosmic forces and brings them into matter; the last half of the Earth’s evolution is to be the manifestation of healing. These Ideas are living beings in the cosmos just as we are living beings on the Earth. These Ideas come into the Earth with the Full Moon and with the New Moon there is dissolution. The Divine Ideas have to dissolve. The imprisoned Ideas will need transubstantiation.

These are steps that lead down from the cosmos: Saturn, Jupiter and Mars, which is the last step and the nearest neighbor to the Earth. Mars is not on the side of the new creation, but it is on the side of the natural creation. The new creation was called Mercury; in certain schools, the Earth was called Mars/Mercury. The first half of the Earth’s evolution was called Mars and the second half Occult Mercury, because the last half of the Earth evolution was the manifestation of healing — as it is described in the description of the fourth church of the Apocalypse (Revelation, Chap, 2 : 28): “And I will give him the morning star.”

This Occult Mercury, which we call Venus, has certain rhythms. All planets create the form of the lemniscate in their journey around the Sun. The loops are in the same constellation for a long time. This Easter the loop will be in Ram. This gesture takes place in five positions, creating a five-pointed star. This invisible star is called in occultism Mercury, the star of salvation and healing. It was incorporated by Christ into the Earth. It is the antidote of Mars, the natural creation. Major events in Palestine during the Three Years are associated with these Occult Mercury rhythms.

This star is complete in the course of about four years. The superior conjunction in Scorpion is connected with the first of these Events and occurred shortly before the Baptism of Christ. Before the Baptism Jesus went through a crisis. The Essenes lived a secluded life in their own community. They were able to keep the dark powers of Lucifer and Ahriman away, but these dark powers descended on the rest of humanity. Jesus experienced this at the Gates leading into their community. He felt that it was not the answer. Therefore, he went home and had a long talk with his mother, and then went to be baptized by John the Baptist, after which the Christ Events took place.

The second Event occurred with an inferior conjunction in Lion, which is connected with the blood mystery. John the Baptist was strongly connected with the blood-stream of Elias. The bloodstream is also connected with Herod; there the blood-stream had deteriorated. There was the beheading of John the Baptist, then the connection as over-soul with the 12 Apostles. The sacrament of Bread and Wine and the presence of John the Baptist at the Feeding of the 5,000.

With the third Event, Occult Mercury was in a superior conjunctions in Twins (having to do with the Saturn Mysteries). Christ went to Phoenicia (Mystery of the Word). It was here that the healing of the daughter of the Syro-Phoenician woman took place; it was the healing of the sickness of the Phoenician Mysteries. In Phoenicia the Mysteries were very decadent; the Demons had taken hold of them. This was carried from generation to generation through the blood.

The fourth Event was an inferior conjunction in Fishes/Ram took place about the time of the Last Supper and the Mystery of Golgotha. The Star of Healing was thus brought into the Earth, and Great Events would take place. Christ withdrew into the desert of the Earth. The symbol of the Ram is associated with a new beginning. Like a lightning bolt, something new came down into the Earth; it was the last step of Christ’s Incarnation.

The Fifth Event, and the last point of the star, was a superior conjunction in Goat. One aspect of Goat is that the Greeks called it the Gateway to the Gods. It is connected with the stoning of St. Stephen. Through this sacrifice of St. Stephen, Saul could become Paul. This still belongs to the manifestation of Christ: the opening of the heavens by St. Stephen, then later the conversion of Saul to Paul at the Gates of Damascus during this Fifth Event. This is the picture for the power that will enable people in the future to return, in the course of time, to the greater purpose of humanity. It has been imprinted in the Earth by Christ. One point of the invisible Occult Mercury star stands in Scorpion and another in Lion, the healing of the blood. The one in Twins gives possibility to enter again into the higher world — the healing of the Word — that which will become the real experience of Christ. In Ram the old head was transformed in the Resurrection. The place of the skull at Golgotha was transformed by the perfect Human. This shows us how a new cosmology can throw light on the Christ Events. You will find in the Pistis Sophia that, “Christ upset the cups of the stars.”
